Project description media scouts

Aim of the project

When training to become a media scout, pupils expand their own media skills and build up the relevant knowledge, options for action and the ability to reflect on how to use media safely, creatively, responsibly and independently. In line with the peer-to-peer approach, they become contact persons for their classmates on media issues and train new media scouts. The media scouts receive support from guidance teachers who also take part in the training.

Participants

One or two guidance teachers and eight scouts from years 7 to 9 (preferably year 8) are trained at each school. The guidance teachers accompany the media scouts during their training. Together with them, they develop a concept for the introduction of media scouts at their school.

Contents

The training is divided into four subject areas, each of which is taught in one-day training sessions:

  • Internet security and smartphone settings
  • social media
  • Cyberbullying and cybergrooming
  • Optional topic: media addiction, computer games, methodical ...

Social learning, counseling skills and communication training are taught in parallel.

Organizational matters

The training takes place over four days at the media center of the city of Bonn, which are spread over different working days of a school semester. The school ensures that pupils and teachers are released from school and thus that they are obliged to attend all four training days.

Catering is provided by the students themselves. There are no costs. At the end of the qualification, the participants receive a certificate, which is officially awarded at a joint graduation evening.

The media scouts training is implemented in cooperation between the Bonn Media Center and the Bonn Police.
