Parents' evenings
Safe online use
Does your child surf the internet almost every day, watch videos on YouTube or use Instagram? Do they occasionally send messages to their friends via WhatsApp? Digital media are important in our children's lives. As parents, you are an important companion.
What do our children need to know in order to use the internet safely and fairly? How can parents support responsible use? We want to address these questions at an information evening.
Nude pictures - between pornography, sexting and cybergrooming
Does your child chat on the internet almost every day and sometimes even receive nude pictures via Messenger? Nude pictures are not uncommon on the smartphones of children and young people. Nevertheless, most children and young people are not aware of the risks of intimate images. As parents, you are an important guide. When is pornography on a smartphone a criminal offense? Is sexting dangerous? And how can I protect my child from cybergrooming?

Internet ABC teacher
In North Rhine-Westphalia, the NRW media literacy framework provides the basis for teachers to strengthen pupils' digital skills. The skills described there can be developed concretely and practically in the classroom with the Internet ABC.
In order to delve deeper into the work with the Internet ABC, the State Media Authority, together with the LVR Center for Media and Education and the LWL Media Center Westphalia, offers a certificate qualification for Internet ABC teachers. The team at the Bonn Media Center is qualified to carry out the certification.
The training of interested teachers aims to sustainably promote internet skills in elementary school (especially 3rd and 4th grade) as well as in 5th and 6th grade of secondary school. The hybrid training concept is divided into three units (presence and distance phases):
- Familiarization and exploration
- Deepening and applying
- Exchange and evaluation
During the training, participants can explore the Internet ABC together, develop their own teaching ideas for integrating the learning modules with reference to the media literacy framework and try them out in practice in the classroom.

Open Roberta Coding Hub
The Bonn Media Center is an Open Roberta Coding Hub. A coding hub or coding lab(or) is a programming center or place for programming, learning and application. The Bonn Media Center offers learners the opportunity to bring robots to life on the freely available programming platform " Open Roberta Lab (opens in a new tab)". Individually or in groups, independently or in workshops, the mBots, the Calliope mini microcontroller and other educational robots, for example, can be easily programmed on site in a playful way, thus contributing to an understanding of the digital world.
The Bonn Media Center's Coding Hub hosts training courses, workshops and project days aimed at pupils and teachers. The aim is to reduce inhibitions, gain initial programming experience and implement projects. In addition, the robots can be loaned to schools in Bonn as a class set for four weeks free of charge.

Name | Description | Target group |
---|---|---|
"You can look it all up!" - Between fake news and conspiracy theories | What do fake news and conspiracy theories have in common? How do they differ? We will get to the bottom of these and other questions together. We will also show how fake news and conspiracy theories can be recognized and give recommendations on how to deal with them. | Teachers Pupils from 3rd to 10th grade |
"Hello world!" - Programming with the Calliope Mini | If you can't imagine programming a minicomputer yourself, join us to get to know the Calliope mini. We start with an introduction to programming and then write a "Hello World" program. Depending on the level of experience, further projects can then be programmed. | Teachers Pupils from 4th to 10th grade |
"Send a photo!" - Cybergrooming in everyday chat life | Whether online games or social media - children and young people can quickly make new acquaintances via the chat function. Cybergrooming is not uncommon. We show what the warning signs are, what strategies the perpetrators use and how children and young people can behave correctly. | Teachers Pupils from 5th to 10th grade |
#nofilter - self-portrayal and selfies | Whether on vacation, a delicious meal or your best friends - the virtual self leads a perfect life. With the help of filters, our bodies also appear to be flawless. But where are the boundaries between the digital and analog worlds? We raise awareness of "more reality on Instagram" and provide recommendations for action on the topic. | Teachers Pupils from 6th to 10th grade |
#private? - Data protection in social media | Life today no longer only takes place in "real life". Data such as names, places and pictures are also shared daily on social media. But what is private and what is public? We provide recommendations for action tailored to the age group. | Teachers Pupils from 4th to 10th grade |
Aggressive and offensive - hate speech online | Insults, threats and contempt - that's hate speech. We discuss how hate speech is recognized, what the reasons are and what the legal situation is. We also show that everyone can do something about hate speech with their own behavior. |

Educational media center NRW | The Bildungsmediathek NRW is the portal for educational media in NRW. Here you will find an extensive range of freely available digital educational media and teaching materials licensed for schools in Bonn. We show which functions and possibilities the Bildungsmediathek NRW offers and create media lists, student access and interactive learning content together with H5P. | Teachers |
Cyberbullying - this is where the fun ends! | Cyberbullying is not okay. That's why we sensitize children and young people to their own boundaries as a preventative measure. We explain what cyberbullying is, what the consequences are and what the perpetrators' reasons are. We also work out where those affected can find help and how everyone can protect themselves. | Teachers Pupils from 4th to 10th grade |
The movie is in the can, now what? - Film editing with iMovie | When a film has finally been shot, it needs to be edited as easily as possible. We are therefore happy to support you with an introduction to iMovie. In addition to film editing, we also look at the audio track and explain how the film can be saved and shared. | Teachers Pupils from 5th to 10th grade |
The mBot - from construction to programming | Robots don't have to be complicated. With the mBot, pupils can assemble a robot themselves and bring it to life using the Nepo programming language (OpenRobertaLab). Depending on their level of experience, students can make the mBot dance or test the robot's various sensors. | Pupils 3rd to 10th grade |
Print your bookmark with a 3D printer | How does a 3D printer actually work? Pupils explore this question for themselves when they develop their own bookmark: From the idea to the design to the print! In the process, they learn how versatile geometric figures are and what needs to be considered when designing them. | Pupils 6th to 8th grade |
Creating e-books with the BookCreator | E-books are practical because they can be filled with multimedia content. We show how children can use the BookCreator app to create their own e-books with images, videos and audio recordings. | Teachers Pupils from 2nd to 4th grade |
A look behind the scenes: search engines | Search engines are our constant companions in everyday life, but how does a search engine work? We get to the bottom of this question and also show tips for proper research with a search engine. | Teachers Pupils from 5th to 10th grade |
Use of tablets in the Kita | Not only pupils, but also small children have access to tablets. We look together at the media worlds of Kita children and give tips for parent-teacher conferences and parents' evenings. We also try out creative examples together that can be easily implemented in everyday Kita life. | Parents |
Fact or fake - helpful research tools | Fake news and image manipulation are an integral part of our news world. We discuss what fake news is and how we can recognize it. We also present various research tools that can be helpful in uncovering fake news. | Teachers Pupils from 6th to 10th grade |
Film off - animated films with Stop Motion Studio | We make our own animated film: after we have developed an idea and the corresponding storyboard, we make the characters. With the help of the free Stop Motion Studio app, we bring the characters to life and present the results to the group. | Teachers Pupils from 2nd to 5th grade |
Storytelling with the Ozobots | Pupils get to know our smallest robots, the Ozobots. They learn how they are programmed and then control the Ozobots on a game board so that different picture cards are traversed. Along the way, the pupils tell their own story piece by piece. | Pupils 3rd to 5th grade |
iPad basics for beginners and advanced users | In order to use the iPad as a learning tool in the classroom, teachers should understand and be able to use the basic functions of the tablet. We support the process by trying out the various applications together, depending on the level of experience. | Teachers |
